Rug cushions provide comfort and increase durability. For rugs on hard surfaces, Sharian recommends Durahold rug padding - a gripping underlay laminated with a rubber bottom that contacts the floor and a ridged, textured synthetic fiber upper layer that grips the rug. Rugs should be pulled tight over padding to help eliminate ripples and buckles. Pads should be cut such that the edge of the carpet touches the floor. Sharian now also offers the Omni Rug Underlay. This new improved padding provides great stability for small rugs and runners with a lower profile for areas that height is an issue.
Sharian offers a large selection of antique (100+ years old), semi-antique (50+ years old) and new rugs (less than 50 years old) - all hand-woven of wool or silk - and all individually selected by us for their quality and value. You can count on Sharian rugs to be of the quality and origin we assert. Our pricing is fair and accurately reflects the value of each rug. Of course, we inform our customers about the origin, history, and market value of every rug in our inventory. Satisfaction is 100% guaranteed!
Rugs should be professionally cleaned at least every one to four years, depending on the amount of traffic, environmental conditions and soil. Vacuuming your rug regularly will remove harmful grit and loose soil. If your rug is fringed, be careful to keep the vacuum off the fringe to prevent damage. For antiques and flatweaves, it is preferable to use a carpet sweeper instead of a vacuum cleaner. If a spill occurs, try to take care of it immediately. Carefully blot up spills using clean white tissues, napkins or towels.
Q: What should I look for when buying an Oriental rug? A: Of course, the most important aspect about buying a fine rug is working with a knowledgeable rug retailer you can trust - one who can assure you that you're getting what you pay for. Then it comes down to aesthetics and budget. What colors do you like? Light or deep? Do you prefer traditional or more contemporary patterns? Florals? Geometrics? Are you trying to match certain fabrics or paint colors? Do you want a rug with a medallion or one with an all-over design?

Mustiness or minor odor problems caused by pets may be helped by our deodorizing treatment at the time of cleaning. But standard cleaning will not always remove pet odors. When a rug has been saturated with pet urine, we recommend a total submersion cleaning process combined with an odor eliminator enzyme treatment. We recommend that all wool rugs be moth-sprayed at each cleaning. We suggest added protection be added to help resist spots, spills, and stains.
