McGowen Chemical Company was founded by Charles Hugh McGowen, Jr. in 1960 in downtown Hattiesburg, MS. Initially McGowen Chemical was responsible for servicing oil fields and the logging industries with industrial strength chemical cleaning products. In 1979 his son, Charles Hugh McGowen, III started helping his father in the business.
