Christian-Lorraine was formed by Langdon T. Christian, IV and John K. Lorraine Jr. in 1985 and is currently owned by Rebecca B. Lorraine and Ruby C. Lorraine. We feature an in-plant cleaning process where your fine rugs are carefully wet washed by hand. We also have restoration artists that repair, restore, and preserve your fine carpets through careful hand-sewn techniques.
Services
Christian-Lorraine specializes in the hand cleaning of not just oriental rugs but also hooked, braided, needlepoint, and machine made rugs. We cannot clean jute, sisal, seamed rugs, or fur skins. Please give us a call if you are unsure. Our standard cleaning includes dust and grit removal with our beating process, then a full wet wash with a mild detergent, spot stain treatments, and fringe cleaning.
The first step in our cleaning process is removing the dirt and grit from the rug. Rugs are hand fed into our beater machine where soft bristle brushes help guide the rug through the machine. Inside the machine leather straps rotate hitting the back of rug, knocking the dirt and grit out of the foundation of the rug.
At Christian Lorraine Oriental Rugs we take pride in having a hands-on and high-quality restoration/repair department. We can repair/restore fringe, selvedge, pile wear or moth damage, and holes or tears. We also work on hooked and braided rugs, rag rugs, and machine made rugs. We strive to offer several repair/restoration options to fit your needs and budget.
Unfortunately, due to supplier issues, we are no longer able to carry SLA moth spray and nuggets for sale. We recommend Eco Supreme pad because unlike all other pads it has a chemically inert backing, provides a moisture barrier, holds up to washing, and the non slip backing will not breakdown or stick to your floors over time.

I purchased two Karastan rugs from an estate sale that needed a thorough cleaning. After calling a couple of local vendors I called this place. Anna answered the phone and I immediately knew this was the place I wanted. She was knowledgeable about the brand, clearly explained their process and pricing options, and was super friendly on the phone. When I dropped the rugs off there were two ladies our front who came out to roll the rugs out, did an assessment of condition, and gave me a reasonable estimate. I just picked them up and they are gorgeous. Don't cheap out on your rugs, this is the place you want to go. Excellent work!

Highly professional and nice folks repaired and cleaned my favorite oriental rug. The customer service started with the initial call. They were helpful, explaining their cleaning and repair process. They were very up front with the costs and I got my estimate quickly. It was easy to set up pick up and drop off at my home. The pick up and drop off service is excellent.
The fringe repair and edge repair is like new again. The worn spot repair is perfect again. My rug looks like new again. They were able to get my rug back a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. I am impressed with their services. I highly recommend Christian Lorraine.

The people at Christian Lorraine were very helpful and trustworthy. I had a repair done to my favorite rug. Their price was fair and came to the exact amount of the estimate. All their work is also done on site. It did take three weeks before they were able to get to my rug but I was notified about that before hand. It was an all around great experience and I highly recommend them.

We had our oriental rug cleaned by C-L. Staff examined the rug thoroughly in front of me. I liked that. Had a dog urine stain at one end of the carpet. Paid extra for the cleaning treatment. Brought the rug home and unrolled it after the cleaning. The color red had bled. Pink was now over 40% of the carpet. Expensive rug is now ruined. I still have questions. Did the information concerning the urine stain reach the cleaning crew? Does the cleaning crew know how to clean a rug with a urine stain?
From our experience, administration and the cleaning crew don't talk. If they do, I would have been told about the color bleed when I picked up the rug. Maybe when I picked up the rug they didn't want the confrontation? With hindsight as my guide, the cleaning process applied to the urine stain created the problem of color bleed. I don't think C-L knows how to clean rugs with urine stains. I have uncovered more reviews that are exactly like mine from up to 3 years ago. Beware!

I have had 7-8 rugs cleaned by them over the years and they have always come back better than expected. The colors are always so vibrant after washing! I have also repair work done, some of it quite extensive and while certainly not a cheap undertaking it was worth it. One carpet required extensive re-knotting and you would be hard pressed to tell from looking at it what areas were repaired.
Cash and carry is the way to go for cleaning as they charge a pick up fee. They also have some interesting and beautiful carpets and different odds and ends for sale. and the coolest thing is they always decorate their showroom windows!

I love oriental rugs and this place has both antiques and new ones.the real, hand-knotted kind.not machine-made knock offs. They also clean and repair carpets, something I'm planning to do with a huge oriental rug I bought at an estate sale in WIlliamsburg. It's probably over 100 years old, and it's threadbare in some places around the edges.
They said they can sometimes re-thread them or paint them, or if I want, they can cut it down to a smaller size and bind the edges since most of the damage is on the outer perimeter. It's not inexpensive to do at $1.50 per square foot, but it's worth it if you have a good quality rug or one with historical significance. They do pick up and deliver, but there's a $60 charge for that so haul it in yourself if you can.
